Top Speed Races out of the Arcade Archives Today

Top Speed, a racing game originally released into arcades by Taito in 1987, is this week’s release in Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives and Arcade Archives 2 lines of emulated arcade titles, following on from last week’s release of Quester, on which we previously reported.

According to Hamster Corporation, in ‘Top Speed,’ players get to, enter high-stakes street races where speed is everything, and aim for the finish line while dodging obstacles and avoiding collisions with rival cars.”
“Using Nitro grants you explosive acceleration. Blow past the competition, leave everyone in your dust, and show them what it means to be the best!”

Also known as ‘Full Throttle,’ Top Speed’s only previous home release appears to have been for the Sharp X68000 computer, in Japan, in 1988.

The Arcade Archives version of Top Speed was released on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 today (February 5th 2026), priced at $7.99 USD.

Meanwhile, the Arcade Archives 2 version of the game, which adds a new “time attack” mode, was released on Nintendo Switch 2 , PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. As usual, purchasers of the Arcade Archives version of the game on PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the Arcade Archives 2 version on PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch 2 respectively for $2.99 USD.
