Following the success of Analogue’s 3D, it’s no surprise that Modretro wants to gain some ground by sharing details of its own version of an N64 FPGA console. There will also be a red console version available at launch to add to the already colorful lineup. Those into the tech side of things will be pleased to hear the high-quality production values of the PCBA that will include black pre-peg and a clear soldermask with a gold trace. It certainly sounds expensive.

There was also confirmation that the Trident controller will be sold separately later, which may be a deciding factor for some potential buyers, although a setup including everything may be announced at a later date. The update also included information about the mechanical side of the console, which will include an easy-to-use latch and eject system. All that said, we think the coolest part of the update is that the M64 will include an uplight that will show the cart art in the dark.

There is good news for N64 fans as Modretro has dropped a bunch of details about its upcoming M64 console.
