{"id":30909,"date":"2026-02-13T16:24:56","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T16:24:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.retronews.com\/?p=30909"},"modified":"2026-03-26T08:58:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T08:58:08","slug":"god-of-war-sons-of-sparta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.retronews.com\/staging\/guide\/god-of-war-sons-of-sparta\/","title":{"rendered":"God of War: Sons of Sparta Battles onto PS5"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>God of War: Sons of Sparta<\/strong> was one of the more interesting reveals at yesterday\u2019s <strong>State of Play<\/strong> presentation, at which other retro-flavored announcements of interest to us included Rayman 30th Anniversary Collection, on which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retronews.com\/staging\/rayman-30th-anniversary\/\">we reported<\/a> earlier today.<br \/><br \/>The game is a retro-style 2D side-scrolling pixel art Metroidvania game that has been developed by the Sony first-party developer and original <strong>God of War<\/strong> developer <strong>Santa Monica Studio<\/strong> in conjunction with the indie retro developer <strong>Mega Cat Studios<\/strong>, whose games we have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.retronews.com\/staging\/mega-cat-studios-3-nintendo\/\">covered previously<\/a>.<br \/><br \/>Despite being announced mere hours ago, <strong>God of War: Sons of Sparta<\/strong> is already available to purchase for <strong>PlayStation 5<\/strong>, on the <a href=\"https:\/\/store.playstation.com\/en-us\/concept\/10012744\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PlayStation Store<\/a>, priced at $29.99 USD (or local equivalent).<br \/><br \/><strong>God of War: Sons of Sparta<\/strong> is the 10th game to be released in the <strong>God of War<\/strong> series, with the very first being \u2018<strong>God of War<\/strong>\u2019 for <strong>PlayStation 2<\/strong>, back in 2005.<br \/><br \/>In addition to this new\u00a0 retro-style side-scrolling 2D <strong>God of War<\/strong> spin-off, remakes of the original <strong>God of War<\/strong> Trilogy were also announced during yesterday\u2019s <strong>State of Play<\/strong> presentation.
