Slap Fight is a vertically scrolling shoot ‘em up developed by Toaplan that was originally released into arcades by Taito in 1986, before receiving home conversions to several formats, including a Genesis/Mega Drive conversion in 1993.
And now, almost 40 years after its arcade debut, and over 30 years after its Genesis/Mega Drive release, Slap Fight is returning to the Genesis/Mega Drive thanks to Retro-Bit, who are re-releasing Slap Fight on a physical Genesis/Mega Drive cartridge via Limited Run Games. The new release of Slap Fight MD will be compatible with both PAL and NSTC variants of Sega’s beloved 16-bit console.
The Slap Fight MD Collector’s Edition includes a Cosmic Flare cartridge for Genesis/Mega Drive (NTSC & PAL), a reversible cartridge inlay sleeve, a full-color instruction manual, and an individually numbered embellished slipcover.
Pre-orders for Slap Fight MD are open now via Limited Run Games, with the cartridge scheduled to ship between November 24 and November 30 2025.
As with the NES re-release of R.C. Pro-Am II, on which we previously reported, Limited Run Games are selling Slap Fight MD on behalf of Retro-Bit, so it is not a numbered Limited Run Games release, and collectors of the series can feel free to skip this title if it does not appeal to them.
