In unexpected sequel news for this week, a follow-up to Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert’s 2017 point-and-click adventure, Thimbleweed Park, has been announced.
Despite being a relatively recent game, Thimbleweed Park offered the classic point-and-click gameplay, pixel art graphics, brain bending puzzles, and perhaps most importantly, the offbeat sense of humor that made Ron Gilbert’s genre-defining games of the 1980s and 1990s such classics, but despite being both a critical and commercial success, there had been no word on a sequel, with Gilbert returning to his beloved Monkey Island series with 2022’s Return to Monkey Island, then seemingly preferring to dabble in other genres, such as his rouguelike title Death by Scrolling, on which we reported previously.
However, in a post on its Facebook page yesterday (July 29, 2026), Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox company confirmed that Thimbleweed Park 2 is currently in development. However, development on the game has only just begun, and the game will not be released until early 2028, though you can already wishlist it on Steam.
The original Thimbleweed Park is currently on sale on Steam, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Google Play, but beyond Steam, Terrible Toybox has not yet confirmed on which platforms Thimbleweed Park 2 will be released.
