Van Buren Recreated: Canceled Fallout Game Revived by Modders

A dedicated group of modders has successfully recreated Van Buren, the canceled Fallout game originally developed by Black Isle Studios in 2003. The project, now known as Fallout Yesterday, is a Fallout 2 mod that has been in development since 2020. The mod has recently been released for free, allowing players to fully experience the game.

To enjoy the mod, players need to own Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel. Despite some gameplay limitations, the project continues to improve with the latest 0.6 update introducing new quests, items, weapons, traits, and more. To ensure completion, the modders have open-sourced Fallout Yesterday, inviting contributions from the community. Among various attempts to revive Van Buren, Fallout Yesterday shines for its progress and commitment to recreating the canceled Fallout experience.

I’m Yousiff Taqi, born in ’87, and I’ve been a huge fan of retro games for as long as I can remember. My favorites are RPGs, Platformers, and Action Adventure. I’ve been interested in computers ever since I was young, which is why I pursued a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering from Purdue University. Now, armed with my passion for both retro gaming and computer engineering, I’m excited to embark on new adventures in the world of technology, where I hope to merge my interests and make meaningful contributions. https://www.instagram.com/Aeon https://twitter.com/FencerDarkwind
