Official Spelunky Port Released for C64

The classic indie game Spelunky has received an official port for the Commodore 64, developed by Paul Koller with music and sound effects by Mikkel Hastrup. This port is officially endorsed by the original developer, Mossmouth, and is available for purchase on itch.io for $2.99.

Key Features of the C64 Port

  • Faithful Adaptation: The C64 version maintains the core gameplay of Spelunky, where players explore procedurally generated caves, collect treasure, and avoid traps and enemies. The game retains its roguelike elements, ensuring a unique experience with each playthrough.
  • Graphical Adjustments: While the graphics are adapted to fit the limitations of the Commodore 64, the port remains a faithful representation of the original game, capturing its charm and challenge.
  • Compatibility: The game can be played on both PAL and NTSC models of the Commodore 64, as well as through emulators, making it accessible to a wide range of players.
  • Development Background: Paul Koller, known for his work on other C64 ports, has been developing this version since 2017. The project was officially backed by Derek Yu, the creator of Spelunky, adding an official stamp of approval to this retro adaptation.
