It appears that Doom 64 is likely coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, based on updated ESRB ratings. Originally released as a Nintendo 64 exclusive in 1997, Doom 64 received an enhanced port in 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. This version featured upgraded visuals, improved controls, widescreen support, native 60 FPS performance, and additional content in the form of “The Lost Levels,” which expanded the game’s story.
The updated ESRB listing suggests that Bethesda and id Software are preparing a native release of Doom 64 for current-generation consoles. While neither company has officially announced the port, ESRB ratings often precede formal announcements. For example, similar leaks have occurred in the past, such as with Felix the Cat’s re-release in 2023.
Fans speculate that the new port could include further enhancements like higher resolutions or additional features to take advantage of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S hardware. Bethesda has a history of stealth-releasing classic Doom ports, so it’s possible this could launch without much prior notice.
