Fortune’s Run FPS Stays in Early Access Amid Developer’s Jail Time

The development of the highly-rated Steam Early Access FPS Fortune’s Run has been indefinitely paused after its sole remaining developer, Dizzie, announced they are set to serve a three-year prison sentence. The news was shared in a heartfelt update on the game’s Steam page, where Dizzie explained that their legal troubles stem from events that occurred five years ago, prior to their work as a game developer. They described their past as one marked by violence and expressed regret over their actions.

Fortune’s Run, which launched in Early Access in September 2023, has been praised for its immersive sim mechanics, fast-paced combat, and nostalgic art style reminiscent of classics like Deus Ex and Thief. The game currently holds a “Very Positive” rating on Steam and has garnered a loyal fanbase. However, with Dizzie being the sole developer following the departure of their collaborator Arachne due to personal reasons, development will be entirely halted during their incarceration.

In their announcement, Dizzie reassured fans that they remain passionate about completing the game after their release. They noted that much of the remaining content is already prototyped or in early stages of development. Despite the uncertainty surrounding its future, Dizzie emphasized their commitment to finishing Fortune’s Run, stating, “I love this game and I want to finish it.”

For now, players can continue to enjoy the game in its current state on Steam. While this unexpected turn of events leaves its timeline uncertain, fans remain hopeful that Fortune’s Run will eventually reach completion once Dizzie is able to resume work.
