Pac-Man Chomps onto Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble

Pac-Man’s retro credentials are truly indisputable, with Namco’s  circular yellow fella first munching his way into arcades way back in 1980, but it may surprise you to learn that Sega’s original Super Monkey Ball title first rolled into arcades and onto Nintendo GameCube way back in 2001, some 24 years ago, which arguably make Ai Ai and his simian  chums retro themselves.

And while Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble isn’t a retro game in and of its self, seeing release on Nintendo Switch just last year, we nonetheless thought you might be interested to know that Pac-Man is now paying a visit to the ball-rolling monkeys in Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble.

In the Pac-Man DLC for Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble, the monkeys’ favored fruit of bananas appears to give way to Pac-Man’s beloved cherries! We hope that doesn’t cause Ai Ai et al.to “go ape” at poor Pac!

We love seeing beloved retro gaming franchises cross over with each other here at Retro News, so who knows what could be next? Perhaps the ZX Spectrum’s Jet Set Willy will join Street Fighter’s tournament of world warriors and take on Ryu, Ken and the gang? Perhaps not, eh? But how cool would that be?!

I'm a retro gamer and writer who writes about video games for online and print outlets. My love of gaming began way back in 1986 with the ZX Spectrum, before becoming a lifelong Nintendo fan in 1990 with the Game Boy. And although I keep up with modern gaming, we all know you can't beat retro classics (or maybe I'm just old!)
