Spinal Breakers Breaks out of the Arcade Archives

Spinal Breakers is this week’s Arcade Archives release from Hamster Corporation, which, as usual, is available on both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Despite having a title that evokes the image of  a Mortal Kombat clone, the rather viscerally-titled Spinal Breakers is actually an action shooting game that was originally released into arcades by Video System in 1991.

Hamster Corporation describes Spinal Breakers as follows: “players take control of Colonel WAFFLE and battle through stages by defeating enemies infected by the artificial lifeform known as “HILDROID. Dodge enemy attacks using the rotation button while aiming precisely to take them down.”

Well, this Colonel Waffle certainly sounds a bit tasty!

The Arcade Archives release of Spinal Breakers launches today (June 12th, 2025), on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, priced at $7.99.

This week’s release of Spinal Breakers follows last week’s “Arcade Archives 2” title Ridge Racer, which zoomed onto Nintendo Switch 2 on its launch day, as we previously reported. As well as Nintendo Switch 2, Hamster Corporation also released the Arcade Archives 2 version of Ridge Racer on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, however, the original Arcade Archives series continues to release on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, as with this week’s release of Spinal Breakers.
