Mister Scary is a forthcoming Halloween-themed homebrew platform adventure game for NES and Famicom that’s being developed by the indie dev Clay Lancaster (AKA Calgames).
Mister Scary’s developer, Clay Lancaster, describes the game as follows: “Mister Scary has lost his family! Can you safely guide him through a world of frightful creatures and epic boss battles? Adventure through sprawling action-packed landscapes and battle a variety of unique monsters in this addictive platformer. Do you the the platforming skills to uncover the secrets and reunite Mister Scary with his family? I hope so, he is counting on you!”
Clay Lancaster will be seeking funds to produce the game via a Kickstarter campaign that’s set to launch later this week, on July 15th, 2025, but the Kickstarter page is live now. It appears that Calgames intends to produce physical versions of Mister Scary for NES and Famicom with the funds he raises.
In the meantime, a demo featuring the first 1.5 levels of Mister Scary is available to download now from itch.io, where you can also purchase ROMs of previous homebrew NES games by Clay Lancaster, including titles such as the Jim & Dill adventure games and the seasonal platform game Mr. Maymunshine’s Christmas Land, plus more.
