Star Fox - Shindou Edtion box art

Star Fox – Shindou Edition is a ROM hack of the SNES classic Star Fox by the SNES hacker Sunlit that adds rumble support to the game, using the specifications created by Randal Linden for the upcoming (but already sold out) new version of Doom for SNES, on which we previously reported, which means that Star Fox Shindou Edition will be compatible with the forthcoming SNES rumble controller that Limited Run Games will be releasing alongside the the SNES Doom release, and which can be pre-ordered from the Limited Run Games website for $34.99, with an estimated shipping date of Feb 24 – 28, 2026.

Sunlit states that the Star Fox – shindou Edition ROM hack has been tested and found to be working on real SNES hardware with an FXPak Pro flashcart and a rumble controller prototype, and with the Mesen emulator.

Star Fox was originally released for SNES and Super Famicom back in 1993, and famously, the game’s name was changed to Starwing for its PAL release in Europe and Australia, apparently to avoid potential legal issue and confusion with a German company called StarVox, and not, as it was assumed at the time, to avoid confusion with a pre-existing 8-bit home computer game that was also called StarFox.

The Star Fox – Shindou Edition ROM hack is available to download now, with European, American and Japanese versions of the hack all available.
