Mr. Gimmick is an 8-bit platform game by Sunsoft that was originally released in Japan under the name Gimmick! for the Famicom in 1992, with the game receiving a NES release in Scandinavia only under the name Mr. Gimmick in 1993.

Following the revival of Sunsoft, Gimmick!/Mr. Gimmick has had something of a revival itself in recent years, including a physical rerelease of the game for NES (on which we previously reported) and a belated sequel for modern formats, on which we also reported.

And now, owners of Evercade VS, Evercade EXP, and Evercade Alpha consoles have the chance to enjoy the quirky 8-bit platforming fun of Mr. Gimmick for free, because Mr. Gimmick is the November 2025 Evercade Highlight of the Month, replacing last month’s Evercade Highlight of the Month, which was Boulder Dash, as we previously reported.

The Evercade Highlight of the Month gives owners of compatible Evercade hardware the chance to try one of the games from previously released Evercade cartridges completely free of charge, simply by updating their machine’s system software, with the game remaining playable until the system software is updated again.

Mr. Gimmick first appeared on Evercade on the Sunsoft Collection 1 cartridge, which was released in October 2023.
