DocType Mag Revives Type-Ins

DocType is a brand new magazine that’s dedicated to publishing type-in listings. Now, if you’re old enough to have been around in the early days of home computer gaming, way back in the 1980s, then you’ll almost certainly remember that early video games magazines such as Computer & Video Games regularly published type-in listings in the BASIC programming language for readers to type in it home, in order to get themselves anew game for their home micro.

Well, now, DocType magazine is aiming to produce the modern equivalent of those type-in listings of yore, but this time using HTML rather than BASIC.

The first issue of DocType is on sale now, and it promises HTML listings for “10 wonderful web apps, including games, toys, puzzles and utilities.” Obviously, it’s the games element that’s piqued our interest at Retro News. So, if you want the chance to relive the truly authentic retro experience of typing in code from a magazine in order to get a new computer game, just like we did back in the 1980s, then you can buy the first issue of DocType magazine from Lulu now, priced at £7.99 GBP.

You can learn more about DocType magazine and its contributors at the DocType website.

I'm a retro gamer and writer who writes about video games for online and print outlets. My love of gaming began way back in 1986 with the ZX Spectrum, before becoming a lifelong Nintendo fan in 1990 with the Game Boy. And although I keep up with modern gaming, we all know you can't beat retro classics (or maybe I'm just old!)
