Crazy Taxi: World Tour Picking Up on PC & Console Next Year

Crazy Taxi: World Tour, an all-new installment in Sega’s beloved Crazy Taxi series was announced during yesterday’s XBOX Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest.

Development of Crazy Taxi: World Tour has been led by Kenji Kanno, the creator of the original Crazy Taxi game.

Sega says that: “Crazy Taxi: World Tour takes you on a full-throttle adventure that will take you all over the globe. The new story-driven World Tour campaign invites you to hunt down the mysterious masked bandits who stole Alex’s beloved taxi, while completing extreme missions and challenges!”

Features promised in Crazy Taxi World Tour include: new maps and missions, with travel through varied terrain in five unique cities; multiplayer modes; new vehicles and customization; and Classic Mode, in which you can rediscover the adventures of the old games with Arcade Mode.”

From the footage we’ve seen so far, it seems that Sega has even relicensed The Offspring’s pop-punk anthem ‘All I Want’ from the original game’s soundtrack.

Crazy Taxi fans have been patiently revving their engines for a new entry in the series for almost a decade, since the release of 2017’s Crazy Taxi Tycoon cell phone game, having to make do with Crazy Taxi– inspired projects such as the Taxi Chaos games and fan-made projects such as the Game Boy demake Taxi Boy, on both of which we have reported previously.

But it’s not all good news for Crazy Taxi fans. There has been some consternation regarding Sega’s use of generative AI in the development of Crazy Taxi: World Tour, which was disclosed on the game’s Steam page as follows: “We have used such generative AI support tools during development of Crazy Taxi: World Tour. No AI was used in reference to the performers in the game.”

Crazy Taxi: World Tour will be speeding onto on XBOX Series X|S, XBOX on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 next year, until then, you can check out the game’s official website to  find out more about Crazy Taxi: World Tour.
