Mega Man X Regenesis is an impressive-looking fan game based on Mega Man X, the 1993 SNES installment of Capcom’s beloved Mega Man series.
Mega Man X Regenesis appears to be a lovingly-made expanded remake of the SNES original, made by homebrew developer Justin Ross, who has previewed the game via his X account, where he describes his game as “a Re-imagination” of Mega Man X.
Features promised in Mega Man X Regenesis are:
An original story set in an alternate Mega Man X timeline
• eight brand-new Maverick bosses to defeat
• new special weapons
• powerful armor upgrades
• hidden collectibles and secrets
• unlockable in-game Achievements
• over 25 original soundtrack pieces
• hand-crafted SNES-inspired pixel art
• full controller support
We think Mega Man X Regenesis is looking good enough to be an official Mega Man release, and we’ll get to find out if Mega Man X Regenesis lives up to that huge potential when the game is released as a free download via itch.io for PC, Android and Steam Deck on August 17, 2026.
Mega Man has proven to be an enduringly popular series for Capcom ever since the first Mega Man game was released on the NES nearly 40 years ago, back in 1987. Indeed, we’ve previously reported on a different Mega Man fan game, which was a fan port of the Mega Man 2 LCD game for the Game Boy.
