Originally released on Steam back in 2023, Mega City Force is a “retrowave action roguelike,” that really does seem to go the extra mile to create anauthentically retro atmosphere. This is because the game has been: “inspired by the 80s and 90s action movies and video games,” and it: “looks like it came directly from your favorite VHS tapes, and in the game, during battles, you’ll be able to find cassettes with iconic synth-wave tracks by timecop1983, sublunar, and others. Each pixel, each gun, and each item were crafted to give you that nostalgic feeling, from retro dudes for retro dudes with true love.”
Somehow, we’re getting the impression that Mega City Force’s developers have drawing up0on retro influences when making the game…
In the game: “only the incorruptible agents of Mega City Force stand fast against the crime wave that consumed the city and threatens to overwhelm society. Choose your agent and dive into a deadly battle against the criminals and brutal bosses to unleash the beast of justice in the darkest corners of the city. The vast arsenal of unique guns, abilities, and agents will help you clean the streets and challenge the megacorporation in your original style and approach. Completing the game for the first time unlocks a new difficulty and more loadouts with instantly recognizable legendary outfits, while procedurally generated levels will make each run unique in its own way.”
Features promised in the game include: “immersive Retrowave gameplay, smooth, optimized controls, and couch co-op.
Mega City Force has been developed by Undreamed Games, and the console version of the game will be published by Ravenage Games on PlayStation4&5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, on August 21st, 2026.
Incidentally, we do hope that the game’s name was inspired by the terrific 1990s indie band Mega City Four!
