See More of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction Later Today

Masters of the Universe has been undergoing something of a revival in recent years, with Kevin Smith’s Netflix animated series continuing the saga of the original 1980s cartoon, albeit in a rather more grown-up fashion, and Amazon MGM’s new live action adaptation underperforming at theaters, but proving a huge success on the Amazon Prime streaming service.

As we reported last year, Masters of the Universe is also set to return to video games, in the form of a new side-scrolling pixel art beat ‘em up from Bitmap Bureau, and while the game’s release date may have slipped from the April 2026 date, on which we reported previously, later today, we’ll have the opportunity to see a playthrough of the first level of the game, via the Pixel Acardia live stream, on which we have also reported previously, and which promises to showcase “the future of retro gaming.” In addition to the preview of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction, Pixel Arcadia also promises “the latest in modern retro-inspired releases, HD remakes, and contemporary hardware designed for classic play.”

Today’s Pixel Arcadia stream will begin at 20:00 CEST / 19:00 BST / 14:00 EST / 11:00 PST, and it can be viewed via YouTube or Twitch.

I'm a retro gamer and writer who writes about video games for online and print outlets. My love of gaming began way back in 1986 with the ZX Spectrum, before becoming a lifelong Nintendo fan in 1990 with the Game Boy. And although I keep up with modern gaming, we all know you can't beat retro classics (or maybe I'm just old!) https://x.com/paultwist
