Psychic Force 2012 is a 3D fighting game that was originally released into arcades by Taito back in 1998, before receiving home ports to the Sega Dreamcast and PlayStation the following year, in 1999, as well as receiving an arcade re-release in 2012, which is the year in which the game is set, of course!
Upon its release, Psychic Force 2012 was notable for its then-novel 360 degree fighting range.
The game is a sequel to Taito’s earlier 3D fighting game, Psychic Force, which itself was originally released into arcades two years previously, back in 1996, with a PlayStation port following a year later, in 1997.
Next year, nearly 30 years on from when Psychic Force 2012 first made its arcade debut, and 15 years on from its later arcade revival, the game will receive its first home releases in over 25 years when Taito, which is now owned by Square Enix, and developer Cosmo Machia bring Psychic Force 2012 to Nintendo Switch, Steam, and PlayStation 5 in 2027.
Before then, members of the public will have the chance to play a special TGS version of the new home ports of Psychic Force 2012, which will be available on demo stations at the Konami Digital Entertainment booth at the Tokyo Game Show, between September 19 and September 21, 2026.
