Rubber-Keyed Wonder Book Fully Funded in Just 98 Minutes

Last month, we reported on plans for a tie-in book to accompany the ZX Spectrum documentary ‘The Rubber-Keyed Wonder‘, with plans to raise the funds to publish the book set to be raised via a Kickstarter campaign. Well, that Kickstarter campaign launched yesterday (October 1, 2026), and the project was already fully funded a mere 98 minutes after it launched on the crowdfunding platform.

The Rubber-Keyed Wonder book is being written by the prominent retro gaming personality Kim Justice, and it will cover the origins of the ZX Spectrum, the launch of the machine, the Speccy’s rivals, and the ZX Spectrum’s modern legacy, (such as the Spectrum Next machine). The book will also explore 48 of the games that defined the ZX Spectrum. The book will be published by Golden Slumbers, a company set up by Ben Grant, who previously co-founded Rubber Road, the business behind the brands Numskull and Tubbz, and Quarter Arcades.

Rewards on offer in the Kickstarter campaign for the Rubber-Keyed Wonder Book include: a hardback copy of the book; a paperback copy of the book; a PDF of the book; a Collector’s Edition of the book; and a limited edition signed 45th anniversary edition of the book.

At the time of writing, the Kickstarter campaign for the Rubber-Keyed Wonder book has had a total amount of £49,238 GBP pledged towards it from 694 backers, and the campaign still has 31 days left to run.
