Dizzy, the Oliver Twins’ eggy hero, first starred in his self-titled platform adventure game on the ZX Spectrum back in 1987, making his most recent appearance in the Oliver Twins’ new ZX Spectrum title Wonderful Dizzy, back in 2020. And next year, seven years on from his last appearance, he Oliver Twins will be working on new prpjects for their beloved egg hero, just in time to celebrate his 40th anniversary.
Dizzy’s 40th anniversary return was announced in a YouTube video posted by Dizzy co-creator Andrew Oliver, who says that Dizzy’s return could include revamps of previous titles as well as some all-new Dizzy games, with Oliver teasing projects for both 8-bit and modern formats.
We look forward to finding out more about Dizzy’s return from the Oliver Twins very soon!
Dizzy is best known for his ZX Spectrum adventures, to the point where even his 2020 return in Wonderful Dizzy was on the ZX Spectrum, and we fully expect his 40th anniversary return to also be on his format of origin, at least in part, but Dizzy has also ventured out onto a number of other formats over the years with Dizzy games also appearing on several other home computers, and even on games consoles such as the NES, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U.
While Dizzy is celebrating his 40th anniversary next year, in 2027, as we’ve reported previously, there are also several notable video games that are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, in 2026, including Castlevania, Out Run, and The Legend of Zelda, and the relative spring chickens Metal Slug and Worms are celebrating their 30th anniversaries.
