Japanese Modder Transforms Obscure PS1 Controller into a Portable Console

Hairo Satoh, or haihaisb on Instagram, revamped the 2001 Takara Roulette controller, a rare PS1 add-on, turning it into a working PlayStation. Best known for modding Game Boys, Satoh‘s latest work turns the Japan-exclusive controller into a handheld PS1, highlighting his inventive and technical expertise.

The Roulette pad, which came out with the PS1 game “Game Of Life” in Japan, features a ‘Wheel of Fortune‘ style spinner in the center for use in the game. Satoh incorporated an LCD screen into this part of the controller.

The mod comes with an SD card slot, a volume knob, two stereo speakers, and a USB-C port, probably for charging the battery.

I’m Yousiff Taqi, born in ’87, and I’ve been a huge fan of retro games for as long as I can remember. My favorites are RPGs, Platformers, and Action Adventure. I’ve been interested in computers ever since I was young, which is why I pursued a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering from Purdue University. Now, armed with my passion for both retro gaming and computer engineering, I’m excited to embark on new adventures in the world of technology, where I hope to merge my interests and make meaningful contributions. https://www.instagram.com/Aeon https://twitter.com/FencerDarkwind
