New NES Game Beyond the Pins: The 2nd Frame Strikes Out Kickstarter Goal

Beyond the Pins: The 2nd Frame is a forthcoming new point-and-click adventure game for the NES that’s been described as: “a new point-and-click adventure game (with bowling!)”

Writing about the game, its developer Kevin Hanley, stated that: “plenty of us remember what gaming was like in the 80s and 90s. Those were the decades when video games really found their footing and produced incredible classics that many of us remember fondly. But have you gone back to really play some of them lately? Early point-and-click adventure games had a limited cursor menu, or worse yet, had a verb construction system. Earlier games even had you actually type what you wanted the character to do! The horror! Adding, “trying to solve puzzles should be the focus of an adventure game, not having to battle the game’s user interface when trying to figure out what the game wants you to input. Introducing Beyond the Pins: The 2nd Frame, a point-and-click adventure game that simplifies the experience, stripping away the hurdles of previous games and letting you focus on what really matters: the fun! No more pixel hunting, no more trying to figure out what noun the text prompt wants, no more cursing when you need to ‘Open’ something instead of ‘Pull’ something. Just walk up to an item. Does it highlight in green? Cool, you can interact with it!”

The features on offer in Beyond the Pins: The 2nd Frame include seven minigames; 26 unique songs; 12 different characters to interact with; 16 close-ups; saving and loading capabilities; and multiple endings.

Beyond the Pins: The 2nd Frame has been in development for nearly two years, and the game is already 100% developed, so the developer is now seeking funds on Kickstarter to fund its production.

In addition to its primary format of the NES, Beyond the Pins: The 2nd Frame is also set to be released on PC, Mac and even MS-DOS.

Rewards on offer in the Beyond the Pins: The 2nd Frame Kickstarter campaign include digital versions of the game on all formats; the game on floppy disk for MS-DOS, with or without a big box; the game on NES cartridge, and a complete-in-box NES cartridge version.

At the time of writing, the Beyond the Pins: The 2nd Frame Kickstarter campaign has raised almost five times its goal, with its current total amount pledged standing at £15,231 GBP against a goal of £3,490 GBP, and there are still seven days left to run on the campaign, so if you have a few bucks going “spare” and you like the idea of a point-and-click and bowling mash up, why not pledge to the campaign?
