Bubble Bobble 4 Friends is a modern entry in Taito’s beloved Bubble Bobble series of platform games that was first released for Nintendo Switch in 2019, before being ported to PlayStation 4 and PC, in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
The game received free DLC titled Bubble Bobble 4 Friends – The Baron is Back in 2020, and now, the game, including the DLC, is set to be released on Nintendo Switch 2, along with a new, exclusive expansion, titled Stardrop Mountain.
Originally released as Bubble Bobble 4 Friends in 2019, The Baron is Back! expands the game with additional stages and brings the return of Baron von Blubba, the relentless enemy from the original arcade game. New to Nintendo Switch 2, the Stardrop Mountain expansion adds another substantial collection of stages, featuring the classic Bubble Bobble gameplay with incredible new stages from Stardrop Mountain and features fan favourite villain Invaduh hot on your heels, determined to wreck your progress at every turn!
I n the game, one can play alone or team up with up to three friends, and the he classic E-X-T-E-N-D bubbles return, inviting players to collect them in order to activate and upgrade skills in standard stages of the game, while playing The Baron is Back and Stardrop Mountain content, gamers will be rewarded with extra lives for popping bubbles.
What’s more, the original Bubble Bobble arcade game from 1986 is also included.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron is Back! + Stardrop Mountain offers the game in HD resolution (1920×1080), along with a new Camera Play feature, which allows players to snap a picture of themselves and their friends, bringing them into the game world, where their selfies displayed inside the bubbles as they launch!
Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron is Back! + Stardrop Mountain is set to be published digitally and physically by Clear River Games, on March 4, 2027, with physical pre-orders open now on the Clear River Games website.
Bubble Bobble 4 Friends isn’t the only modern game to be keeping the legacy of Bubble Bobble alive, as we also previously reported on Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeons, which was released on modern formats last year.
