Dark Alien in Deep Space is a new homebrew game for the Vectrex console, and it’s even available in two different physical editions: the SOLARIS Version of the game comes with a black PCB cartridge; a custom overlay; a full-color manual; a joystick decoration; an APS ticket; and two protective foam inserts. In this version of the game, “you awaken to discover that all the crew members of the SOLARIS base have mysteriously disappeared. Strange and disturbing noises echo through the ship.”
Alternatively, there’s the the TERIA Version, which comes with a yellow PCB cartridge, a custom overlay, a full-color manual, a joystick decoration, an APS ticket, and two protective foam inserts. ‘In this version of the game, “you awaken to discover that all the crew members of the TERIA base have mysteriously disappeared. Strange and disturbing noises echo through the ship…”
In both versions of Dark Alien in Deep Space, the aim is to: “explore the station and try to escape. Find access codes and keys that will allow you to unlock areas that are inaccessible at the beginning of the game, ” and in both versions of the game, three difficulty modes are available, multiple alternative endings can be discovered, and a screen calibration option is included to perfectly align the graphics with the overlay.
Dark Alien in Deep Space has been developed by AR Vectrex, who describes themselves as “a Vextrex game creator”.
With new homebrew games such as Dark Alien in Deep Space and the forthcoming Vectrex Mini console, on which we have reported previously, the Vectrex seems to be having something of a (rather unexpected) renaissance.
