Gelatinous: Humanity Lost is a metroidvania title that was originally released as a homebrew Game Boy title, back in 2022, followed by an Evercade release later that same year, on the Indie Heroes 2 cartridge, with the game then releasing on Steam following year, in 2023.
And now, four years on from its debut on a Nintendo console as an unofficial homebrew release, Gelatinous: Humanity Lost has been released officially on Nintendo hardware, via a digital release on the Nintendo Store/eshop.
The game’s publisher, Nami Tentou, describes Gelatinous: Humanity Lost as follows: “Deep in the Amazon, a lone treasure hunter in search of Ultimate Power gets more than he bargains for when he’s turned to goo and falls deep into the bowels of an ancient temple. As the gooey treasure hunter, you start with nothing. No powers. No weapons. Not even the ability to jump. Only by exploring the temple can you begin to understand and unleash the powers of the slime. Keep playing to unlock new powers, own your enemies, and hopefully uncover the secret to regaining your humanity.”
Gelatinous: Humanity Lost was developed by Retro Room Games, on whose NES title Annalog’s successful Kickstarter campaign we have reported previously. And while Retro Room Games self-published the game-on Game Boy and Steam, the Nintendo Switch version has been published by the indie game studio and publisher Nami Tentou, who released the game on Nintendo Switch on September 3, 2026, priced at $9.99 USD or local equivalent.
