Gitaroo Man, Koei’s cult PlayStation 2 rhythm action game is set to be added to the PlayStation Classics catalog later this month, for subscribers to the PS Plus Premium tier, as revealed during yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play presentation, which was held as part of this year’s Summer Games Fest, which is running from June 1 to June 8.
Gitaroo Man was originally released as a PlayStation 2 exclusive back in 2001, later receiving a handheld port on PSP in 2006.
The game was not the only new PlayStation 2 addition to the PlayStation Classics catalog to be revealed during the State of Play presentation, with PlayStation 2 shooter Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy set to join the service in July 2026, and PlayStation 2 hack ‘n’ slash RPG Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams joining the service in August 2026
While not a retro title per se, the latest title in the Runescape series, Runescape: Dragonwilds will be coming to the PS Plus game catalog as a day one release. Runescape made its debut over 20 years ago now, back in 2001, when the MMORPG launched on PC.
