Mawthorne 2 Skulks onto NES

Mawthorne 2 is a new homebrew Metroidvania game for NES that was funded via a hugely successful  Kickstarter campaign, on which we previously reported, and now, the NES ROM has been released to purchase as a digital ROM download for those who missed Mawthorne 2’s Kickstarter.

The game has been developed by CrazyGroupTrio, and it is a sequel to one of their earlier game, which was called – you guessed it – Mawthorne.

CrazyGroupTrio say of Mawthorne 2: “Mawthorne 2 is a metroidvania, platformer adventure game that takes place after the events of the first game – Mawthorne travels to a nearby moon and explores the depths in search of pieces of the destroyed space station Epsilon 3 in order to enhance his own powers and abilities. However, the underground is not all that it seems on the surface, and Mawthorne will be forced to face many strong foes to earn his new abilities! (While story elements may be clearer by having played Mawthorne 1 or other CGT Games beforehand, it is not required to enjoy Mawthorne 2 as a standalone game!)”

Features of Mawthorne 2 include a large world to explore, filled with monsters and hazards; six unlockable new forms with different stats and abilities; secrets and shortcuts; three difficulty settings; support for five languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, French and Japanese.

The digital version of Mawthorne 2 is available as a downloadable NES ROM now, from CrayGroupTrio’s itch.io page, for a minimum purchase price of $10.00 USD.
