Memories of Rainbird and Beyond Software is the latest book to be announced by the prolific British retro book magazine publisher Fusion Retro Books, on whose hugely successful Kickstarter campaigns for past books, such as ZZAP! Legacy Volume 2 and 64 Dreams we have reported previously.
And Fusion Retro Books’ latest project, a new book titled Memories of Rainbird and Beyond Software has proven to be just as successful, raising £15,129 in pledges against a goal of £12,000 in under 12 hours, and at the time of writing, the campaign still has 19 days left to run.
As with many of Fusion Retro Books’’ publications, Memories of Rainbird and Beyond Software will offer a very British perspective on retro gaming. As Fusion Retro Books head honcho Chris Wilkins describes the book on its Kickstarter page: “n 1985 British Telecom unveiled Rainbird Software, a premium quality label with iconic blue packaging. Rainbird blazed a trail publishing Argonaut’s STARGLIDER series, the exquisitely illustrated text adventures from Magnetic Scrolls, Level 9’s sci-fi and fantasy trilogies, Realtime Games’ CARRIER COMMAND and the epic MIDWINTER series to name just a few,” going on to add that: “Rival label Beyond Software published classic 8-bit games including the ground-breaking LORDS OF MIDNIGHT series, SHADOWFIRE, PSYTRON, and many others, released in their distinctive yellow slipcases and unmistakable robot mascot. When British Telecom had the opportunity to bring the label into the fold, they could hardly refuse.”
Memories of Rainbird and Beyond Software will be a hardback book running to 324 pages in length, as per Fusion Retro Books‘ previous (and hugely successful) title Ocean: the History.
So, if you have an interest in the 8 & 16-bit home computing gaming scenes of the 1980s and early 1990s, then Memories of Rainbird and Beyond Software should prove fascinating reading. You can back the project on Kickstarter now.
