As we reported previously, SNK is planning to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its feted Metal Slug run ‘n’ gun series this year, and Metal Slug Rush is just the first new game to be announced as part of these celebrations.
But Metal Slug fans shouldn’t get too excited just yet. As revealed in a post on the official Metal Slug X account, Metal Slug Rush will be a roguelike in the vein of Vampire Survivors, developed by RingGames, rather than a full-blown new in-house Metal Slug run ‘n’ gun title.
Metal Slug Rush also has its own dedicated X account, on which it is also revealed that Metal Slug Rush will be a free-to-play game for iOS and Android.
However, fans of traditional Metal Slug games shouldn’t be too disheartened, as in a separate post on X, SNK’s “Metal Slug Development Team,” reveals that it is also working on a “brand new” Metal Slug game independently of RingGames’ Metal Slug Rush smartphone game.
Whatever format it comes in, more Metal Slug can only be a good thing, but while Metal Slug Rush looks like it could be fun, we’re especially looking forward to the new mainline Metal Slug title teased by SNK!
