We first reported on the retro-inspired 2.5D brawler Mexican Ninja last year, when the game was announced for Steam. At the time, we’d been told to expect the game in “early 2026.” Well, early 2026 has now been and gone with no sign of Mexican Ninja. We guess ninja are meant to be stealthy to avoid detection, but this is getting ridiculous! However, Mexican Ninja’s developer, Amber Studio SA, has good news! Mexican Ninja is finally about to be released – and soon! The game will be released on August 20, and not just on Steam! Mexican Ninja will also be slicing its way onto PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
As for what we can expect from Mexican Ninja, the game is a roguelike beat ‘em up that will offer: “randomized levels, over-the-top duels and pimped-out weapons,” and “each run unlocks new ninja skills as you train with El Mero Mero Sensei, gain the favor of Mexican-Japanese spirits and wield their powers, ” and in the game, you’ll get to:” unleash Mexican Jutsus, experiment with builds and combos and swagger it up with hidden apparel.”
Mexican Ninja has been described as a “3D Beat ‘Em Up with a 2D retro soul;” offering fast, responsive arcade combat with gore-splashed flair; and “roguelite chaos,” with randomized runs, “trash-talking duels,” and “weapons that get muy personal.”
“This is the moment we have been building toward. Every parry, every jutsu, every run is about that feeling of getting knocked down and standing back up with more swagger than before. Mexican Ninja has always been a vibe, a spirit, a way of being and now players everywhere can find their inner donkey,” said Dario Hoyo, Creative Director at Mexican Ninja.
