Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom has been released as this week’s title in Hamster Corporation’s Console Archives line of emulated games from classic consoles for modern formats, following last week’s Western debut of Ishin no Arashi, on which we reported previously.

Hamster Corporation describes Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom as a: “side-scrolling action game, in which: “the Dragon Ninja, Ryu Hayabusa, fights with his katana and ninjutsu to prove his innocence in the murder of Irene and uncover the truth.” It also says of third Ninja Gaiden game, that: “the ninja battles and “Tecmo Theater have evolved even further since the previous game.”

Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom was originally released by Tecmo in 1991 for Famicom and NES, before receiving a port to the handheld Atari Lynx in 1993. The Console Archives version of the game is the original NES/Famicom version.

The game was the third in the Ninja Gaiden series to be released for NES/Famicom, following Ninja Gaiden (1988) and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (1990).

The Console Archives version of Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom was released yesterday (April 23, 2006) on Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, priced at $7.99 USD or local equivalent.
