A new remastered fan port of Activsion’s seminal Atari 2600 platform game Pitfall is now available. Of course, this isn’t the first time that a Pitfall game has been released for Sega’s 16-bit console, with the Genesis/Mega Drive receiving a official Pitfall game in 1995, titled Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure. That official release was the fourth game to be released in the Pitfall series, whereas this new fan port is a direct port of David Crane’s original Atari 2600 game, which was originally released on its home format way back in 1982, before receiving conversions on other contemporary 8-bit formats of the time.
And now, some 44 years after he began his first adventure, Pitfall Harry’s debut outing can now be enjoyed on a 16-bit format, albeit unofficially. The Pitfall fan port for Sega Genesis/Mega Drive has been developed by SirVH, who released it on a “name your own price” basis, via itch.io on August 1, 2026.
For those who are concerned about the use of generative AI in game development, you may wish to know that SirVH has declared that this port of Pitfall was: “developed with AI assistance (Anthropic’s Claude), and that: “all artwork in the remaster is original and it was created by ChatGPT.”
