Sega has recently filed trademarks for Skies of Arcadia and its Japanese counterpart Eternal Arcadia, sparking speculation about a potential revival of the beloved RPG. The trademarks, filed on January 16, 2025, and made public on January 24, 2025, have fueled hopes for a remaster, remake, or even a new entry in the series. This development aligns with Sega’s ongoing efforts to revive its classic franchises, such as Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and Virtua Fighter.
Originally released in 2000 for the Sega Dreamcast, Skies of Arcadia is a turn-based RPG that follows the adventures of Vyse, an air pirate fighting against the oppressive Valuan Empire. The game was later enhanced and re-released as Skies of Arcadia Legends on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002/2003, but it has never been ported to modern platforms despite high fan demand. Known for its engaging story, vibrant world, and ship-to-ship combat mechanics, the game is considered one of the best RPGs of its era.
The renewed trademark filings suggest that Sega may finally be preparing to bring Skies of Arcadia back to life. While no official announcements have been made yet, this move has generated significant excitement among fans. Given Sega’s recent track record of reviving older IPs and releasing remasters like Persona and Like a Dragon: Ishin, many believe that a remaster or remake of Skies of Arcadia could be on the horizon.
