We reported previously that the gaming preservation website Gaming Alexandria had scanned every issue of the Japanese video games magazine Weekly Famitsu from 1996 and 1997, and made them available to download.
And now, Gaming Alexandria has done the same with another Japanese video games magazine: The Super Famicom magazine, scanning vey issue of the magazine from 1990 to 1992 as high-resolution 600 dpi scans, ad making them available to download both directly from Gaming Alexandria, and via archive.org.
Although these scans are obviously not officially approved, with these scans, Gaming Alexandria is nonetheless doing great work in preserving video gaming media of the past.
The Super Famicom magazine was originally published on a biweekly basis in Japan by the publisher Softbank between 1990 and 1996, and it was aimed at an older audience than the more famous Weekly Famitsu. Following the launch of the Nintendo 64 in 1996, the magazine was relaunched under the name Super64.
Gaming magazines are an essential source for learning about the games of yesteryear, and many are available unofficially via archive.org, though some publishers are unhappy about this, getting their magazines pulled from the site, so if you have an interest in the Japanese gaming scene of the early 1990s, we’d recommend downloading Gaming Alexandria’s scan of The Super Famicom magazine while you can.
