ZSNES Returns as Super ZSNES

Super ZSNES is a new version of the popular Super Nintendo emulator ZSNES, which you will have no doubt encountered if you have ever tried to emulate Super Nintendo games.

The original ZSNES emulator was launched way back in 1997, and now, some 29 years later, the two original developers behind ZSNES have reunited to create an updated version of their emulator, called, perhaps inevitably, Super ZSNES.

According to the emulator’s developers, Super ZSNES’s features include: “far more accurate CPU and Audio cores than the original ZSNES,” a “GPU-powered PPU core to allow for hi-res Mode 7 and special per-game enhancement features,” classic UI with falling snow, modernized with higher definition and improved UX,” “fast forward, rewind, save states, auto save history, save bookmarks, cheat codes, quick load, and a “Super Enhancement Engine, with which the Super ZSNES developers are enhancing games one at a time.”

So far, the Super Enhancement Engine currently supports seven popular games, with more to come.

Other features also set to come in future versions of Super ZSNES include bug fixes, special chip emulation, more optimization, more types of enhancements, and netplay.

Super ZSNES is currently available for Windows, Mac, and Android, with iOS to follow. You can find the download links and more info at  the Super ZSNES website.

My love of gaming began way back in 1986 with the ZX Spectrum, before becoming a lifelong Nintendo fan in 1990 with the Game Boy. And although I keep up with modern gaming, we all know you can't beat retro classics (or maybe I'm just old!)
