New PC Engine Game The Nyanja Defeats Kickstarter Target

The Nyanja is a new retro-style single screen platform game that’s being developed for TurboGrafx/PC Engine Super CD-ROM and PC.

The game’s developer sums up the ethos behind The Nyanja By asking the question: “Do you like Cats, ninjas, and ’90s retro Gaming vibes on REAL retro hardware?”

Well, we can definitely answer “yes!” to that here at Retro News, so The Nyanja sounds right up our alley.

For more of an idea of how The Nyanja will play, the developers add: “We started The Nyanja project a little over year ago in 2024 because we’ve always wanted to make a single-screen type of arcade action game similar to classics like Bubble Bobble, Snow Bros, Rod-Land, and so on.” The final game promises to offer over 60 levels of arcade platforming action. The game’s anime-style cats are simply adorable, so we hope that the actual game lives up to its charming visuals!

The Nyanja’s developer, SaruPro is seeking funds on Kickstarter to publish the game, and with 13 days to go, they’ve already defeated their target of $14,000 by raising $14,422 at the time of writing, but there’s still time to pledge, and you can even check out a demo of the game for PC or PC Engine on itch.io to help you decide whether or not to pledge.
