Zool set to Leap onto Atari Jaguar Next Year

In a post on its X account, the retro Atari developer and publisher Songbird Productions has revealed that it will be bringing everybody’s favourite “ninja of the Nth Dimension,” Zool, back to the Atari Jaguar next year, in 2027.

Songbird Productions’ new Atari Jaguar release of Zool will include the Atari STE version of the original Zool game alongside  a reissue of the Atari Jaguar version of its sequel, Zool 2, both on the same cartridge.

Zool was originally released on the Amiga back in 1992, before being ported to a number of other formats, including the Atari ST in 1993, with its sequel, Zool 2, being released on Amiga in 1993, and on MS-DOS and Atari Jaguar in 1994.

The Atari ST version of Zool differed from the Amiga original in that it used the updated sprite designs from the Amiga sequel, in place of the designs from the original Amiga game.

The versions of Zool and Zool 2 that will be released on Songbird Productions’ upcoming new Atari Jaguar cartridge will offer quality of life improvements for both games.

The port of the Atari ST version of Zool won’t be the first game that Songbird Productions has ported from Atari’s 16-bit home computer to Atari’s 64-bit console, with the developer having previously ported the Atari ST racer Vroom to the Atari Jaguar, as we reported back in 2024.
