A new fan translation patch has been released for Sega Rally 2006 on the PS2, allowing players to easily access this Japan-exclusive game. This title is the third installment in Sega’s arcade racing series, following Sega Rally Championship and Sega Rally 2, and is the first to be released only on consoles. Previously, players outside of Asia had to deal with entirely Japanese menus when importing the game, but now with the translation patch, it is more accessible to a wider audience.
Astraxis‘ latest update focuses on translating various menu items, pre-race screens, tutorials, and career mode features in the game. According to the information provided on Romhacking.net, the translation involved editing the core asset file, DATA.FAB, using a hex editor. However, there are some current limitations to the translation. This constraint led to some abbreviations in the translation to accommodate the limited space. Additionally, graphics containing text remain untranslated as editing the texture files directly is currently not possible.
