Sega has confirmed that a new Virtua Fighter game is currently in development, sparking excitement among fans of the long-dormant fighting game series. The news was revealed by Justin Scarpone, Sega’s global head of transmedia, during an interview with VGC. While details remain scarce, this announcement has fueled speculation that the upcoming title could be the highly anticipated Virtua Fighter 6, marking the first mainline entry in nearly two decades.

The last major release in the series was Virtua Fighter 5, which debuted in 2006 and is still regarded as one of the greatest fighting games ever made. Since then, fans have only seen minor appearances of Virtua Fighter characters in other Sega titles, such as mini-games in the Yakuza series, and the 2021 release of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown.
