Breath of Death VII: The Beginning heads to Steam

Breath of Death VII: The Beginning is a 2010 Xbox 360 RPG developed by Shadow Layer Games. It was one of the highest-scoring games on the console and remained a firm fan favourite for many years after its launch. The hit retro-inspired JRPG is now making a comeback on Steam with some new modes and a complete rebuild of the original code. The Steam port will be available from the 12th of December 2024 at a bargain-busting $5.

The story has a humorous style and is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the undead reigns. Players take control of a band of skeletons, ghosts and vampires as they try to unearth the truth of what happened. The team wish to start life over and remove the dark shroud that covers the world.

Breath of Death VII: The Beginning Reanimated is a complete, ground-up remake of the original, top-rated Xbox Live Indie Game.” Shadow Layer Games’ Bill Stiernberg explained. “The original Breath of Death was well received by critics and players for its streamlined gameplay and engaging pace, creative battle system, humorous story, and charming characters. Reanimated revamps the game with a detailed, sleek 16-bit art style and a completely new soundtrack written and recorded by HyperDuck SoundWorks. Along with new game modes, quality of life features, and enhancements to the UI and controls, the experience is now even more streamlined and user-friendly.”
