Nothing gets us excited more than a new game for an old console, and today it’s the turn of the Mega Drive as Prisonela MD has been announced. The game is coming to Steam later in 2025, but there was also news that a physical edition is up for sale now courtesy of retro publisher The Retro Room. The release will include a cartridge, manual and outer box as well as a digital download for use in emulators.
The game is set in a world filled with oppression as an authoritarian regime has seized power, branding all dissidents as enemies of the state and casting them into a colossal fortress of despair – Prisonela. Here, enslaved creatures labor in twisted virtual environments, their suffering siphoned away as energy to fuel the lifestyle of the ruling elite. It’s up to players to lead the resistance against this force by escaping traps and guards as well as breaking other captives free who become allies in the struggle.
