Shantae Advance leaping to consoles this summer

We brought you the news that Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution was getting a physical release on the Game Boy Advance. Now, following its success, publisher WayForward are bringing the game to modern consoles this summer. Although we don’t have a set release date, we already know the game that took 20 years to be released will be coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC via Steam and was playable at PAX East this month. In addition to the digital version, a physical version, published by Limited Run Games, will be offered in both standard and collector’s editions later in 2025.

In Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, Shantae’s nemesis, the scheming pirate Risky Boots, has a twisted new plot that threatens to leave Sequin Land spinning. As Half-Genie Shantae, players will use her iconic hair-whip attacks, magical dance transformations into six creature forms, and a variety of items and upgrades to seek out the Relic Hunters who can help turn the tectonic tables on Risky. By rearranging the land itself and moving between the Front Yard and Back Yard play fields, players will explore multilayered levels, solve brain-twisting puzzles, and find entry into devious labyrinths guarded by powerful bosses.

Recoded on the Unity engine by the original dev team, the console/PC version of Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution contains the same story, in-game sprites, and gameplay content as the previously released GBA version, plus players will now be able to enjoy the game with updated hi-def character portraits, illustrations, menus, and other visual elements. Alternatively, they can experience the game with its original graphics in Classic Mode. Additionally, the competitive local four-player Battle Mode, a first for the Shantae series, features extra arenas not present in the GBA version.
