A fan port of Metal Gear, the first game in Hideo Kojima’s influential “stealth ‘em up” series, has been released for the Sega Genesis.
The Sega Genesis fan port has been created by Hoffman, on whose Neo Geo fan port of Golden Axe we have previously reported.
Metal Gear was originally released on the NES and MSX2 back in 1987, with the series arguably finding much more popularity following the release of sequel Metal Gear Solid for PlayStation over a decade later in 1998.
H0ffman states that his Genesis fan port of Metal Gear should work with flash carts and emulators, and that it can be played with either a three-button controller or a six-button controller.
Hoffman previously ported Metal Gear to the Commodore Amiga, based on the MSX2 version of the game, and this version is also still available from his itch.io page.
Hoffman’s Genesis fan port of the original Metal Gear game is available to download from Hoffman’s itch.io page now.
In addition to his Metal Gear fan ports, amd the previously mentioned Neo Geo Golden Axe fan port, Hoffman has also ported Shinobi to Neo Geo, and Knightmare to Commodore Amiga, all of which can be downloaded from his itch.io page.
