We’ve been following the release of Ruffy and the Riverside closely and have been waiting for confirmation of the release date. Now, German indie studio Zockrates Laboratories and US publisher Phiphen Games have confirmed that the retro-inspired 3D platformer will leap onto consoles on PC on the 26th of June 2025. To celebrate the news, a new release date trailer has been launched on Nintendo’s YouTube channel, and it also gives a further glimpse of what to expect following the demo released earlier this year.
The hand-drawn 3D platformer will be available on both Switch 1 and 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Series X/S as well as PC via Steam and Epic stores. Those interested can also try the demo that showcases some of the early gameplay and wishlist on their intended platform.
Although Ruffy and the Riverside is inspired by the classic 3D platformers of yesteryear, its unique swap mechanic gives a fresh feel to the tried and tested gameplay. It’s set in an open world where players will need to swap out abilities to uncover secrets and open pathways to continue the adventure. Many of our colleagues from the gaming press have already slated Ruffy and the Riverside to be a big hit with retro fans this year and possibly even platformer of the year. After we played the demo, we have to agree that Ruffy is looking great and are looking forward to trying the full game.
