Ridge Racer blasted into arcades as one of the defining 3D games of the ’90s. It went on to have huge success as the definitive arcade racing series on the PlayStation is still loved by millions around the world. Now, as modern gamers are getting their Switch 2 consoles set up, it’s once again Namco’s perfect racing title that leads the race to bring retro to Nintendo’s new hybrid. An arcade port of Ridge Racer has just launched on Switch 2 courtesy of arcade preservationists Hamster Co. and its Arcade Archives range.
You only need to check out the game footage in the trailer below to see just how great Ridge Racer is to this day, and hopefully, it will usher in a new era of arcade ports on modern systems. This release, coupled with the ever-growing library of old Nintendo titles on its Switch Online service, shows that our retro games will hopefully be getting the love they deserve as we head into an exciting new chapter of gaming.
This isn’t just a straight arcade port, as with their other titles in the Arcade Archives range, this Ridge Racer port will include a network mode to challenge others online, as well as caravan, high score, and time attack modes. There are also added save slots and a rewind function for those modern quality of life perks.
