Heretic + Hexen Blast Back onto PC & Consoles

Heretic + Hexen

Heretic + Hexen, two dark fantasy first person shooters based on id Software’s Doom engine, have been re-released on modern formats in new “ultimate” versions.

Heretic was originally developed by Raven Software, and was originally released in 1994, with its sequel, Hexen, also developed by Raven Software, following a year later, in 1995.

And now, some 30 years on from Hexen’s original release, in conjunction with id Software, Night Dive Studios has remastered both Heretic + Hexen for modern formats.

This new release includes Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, Hexen: Beyond Heretic, and Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel, and it even includes two all-new episodes created in collaboration between id Software and Nightdive Studios, these are: Heretic: Faith Renewed, and Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur.

In total, this new release of Heretic + Hexen includes117 campaign maps and 120 deathmatch maps. New enhancements offered in the release are online cross-platform deathmatch and co-op for up to 16 players, local split-screen deathmatch and co-op for up to four players (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch) or eight players (PC, Xbox Series X|S).

Heretic + Hexen received a surprise release yesterday (July 7th, 2025) and it is out now on Steam, GOG, PlayStation 4&5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One & Series X|S (including Game Pass).
