We recently reported on the release of Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition, the expanded remaster of the classic castle sim. Now, developer FireFly has revealed its first major update to the game, which includes a barrage of new content to satisfy even the most fussy of medieval lords. There is also news of the first paid DLC that adds new campaigns and maps, among some other new characters.
The news included some great information about how well Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition has performed since its launch. The game has sold over 250,000 copies, has a 90% positive rating on Steam, held a high of 16,00 concurrent Steam players, and hit the number one spot on Steam’s Premium Game list. FireFly said that the community response “has been nothing short of stellar”.
The first major update will arrive in two parts: a free content update as well as an optional paid DLC. The free content will introduce The Crocodile, a brand new computer-controlled opponent with his own tactics, castle design, and army. The paid DLC will feature two new CPU commanders in the form of The Canary and The Trader, and a new 9-mission ‘Sands of Time’ skirmish trail. Players can expect military scenarios will test their strategic prowess and skills of siegecraft, as they wage war against these new tricky CPU characters.
