Platypus Reclayed is a reimaging of one of the gaming world’s first indie hits. Originally released in 2002, when the term indie game wasn’t even a thing, Platypus was one of the first solo dev games to find commercial and critical success. Anthony Flack’s hit shmup still has a following to this day, which still creates mods and fan art. Now, 23 years later, Platypus is back and will be released on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Switch on September 18, 2025.
The game has been reprogrammed from scratch and updated for modern hardware. Platypus Reclayed is moulded from the ground up with all-new models and artwork photographed in 4k widescreen, featuring updated gameplay, new weapons, and additional content.
“As the industry has shifted towards more complex, feature-rich, lengthier games, we wanted to go in the other direction: providing a one-button shmup that’s fun from the moment you pick it up!” said Anthony Flack, Lead Games Designer at Claymatic Games. “You don’t need to learn any complicated combos or absorb a bookish tutorial teaching how you can have fun later. Instead, you get right to the action. Platypus Reclayed is designed to be something you pick up for 20 minutes before bed or on your lunch break, but you enjoy every second of it!”
